10 Natural Methods to Detox Your Body

You probably associate detoxing with the colon cleanse and juicing. But did you know that there are many other ways to detox your body that go beyond it? Generally, people tend to look at their physical bodies only, forgetting that they’re also emotional, mental, and spiritual beings. The fact is, we accumulate toxins not only on our physical level but on our emotional and mental levels as well.

Have you ever got angry, sad, or frustrated, was confused and had dozens of thoughts spiraling out of control, felt depleted of energy and disconnected? That means that you have accumulated toxins not only at a physical level, in your body, but at an emotional, mental, and even spiritual levels as well.

That is why I have a surprise for you. In this article, I will reach all the aspects of our being with ten natural methods to detox your body on all levels.

10 Natural Methods to Detox Your Body

The time is now, let the full physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual detox begin!

1. The Right Food

Yes, food can be your poison and your cure, too. Some foods slow down your metabolism, make you feel heavy and down. While others make you feel light and uplifted. Three ways to detox with food are:
Clean eating – avoid processed food, refined sugar, flour, and oils, fat meat, and instead, introduce more veggies, greenies, fruits, and eat organic produce.

A Juice Cleanse

I’m not saying to replace eating healthy with juicing. I recommend that periodically, for 3, 7, 10 or 20 days to make a juice cleanse when you’ll either consume only fresh-made juices from vegetables and fruits for the whole day or to drink a jar of juice each morning before you hit the road.

Juicing is a lovely, pleasant, creative, and colorful way of getting rid of the toxic build-up in your liver, digestive system, lymphatic system, and bloodstream. Once you eliminate the waste in your body, you will feel lighter, happier, more focused, more productive, and purposeful in all areas of your life.

Fasting

Eat the right food or eat none. Fasting (or intermittent fasting) is abstaining from eating for 16 to 24 hours to get amazing benefits for your body and mind. During this period of fasting, you give your digestive system a break, while allowing your body to cleanse itself naturally and restore its energy levels.

2. Herbal Teas

Mother Nature is very caring, and so she gave us many herbs to turn into incredible teas, that were made to detox our liver and kidneys.

Our liver is especially important, as one of its primary functions is detoxification. It also regulates hormones, fat storage, and energy production, cleanses the blood, produces various proteins, and plays a role in the digestion of food.

In traditional Chinese medicine, the liver is the governor of Qi energy, the vital energy. That is why it’s essential to make sure that the liver functions correctly.

Herbs that support your liver and kidneys to eliminate waste from your body are:

  • Burdock
  • Mint
  • Nettle
  • Sage
  • Dandelion root
  • Milk thistle
  • Chicory
  • Turmeric
  • Triphala
  • Guduchi
  • Neem
  • Manjista
  • Saraiva

3. Lemon and Water

When life throws lemons at you, drink them with water in the morning to eliminate toxins out of your body, cleanse your lymph, alkalinize your blood, and get energized.

One freshly squeezed lemon in a glass of warm water does the trick.

4. Just Water

As cliché as it sounds, the simplest way to flush toxins out of your body is drinking water. Kidneys transport the fluid, filter and eliminate toxic waste out of the blood through urine while keeping the proper nutrients in circulation.

Kidneys need a lot of water to do their job. About 6-8 glasses of water daily are what they need.

5. Oil Pulling Method

The Oil pulling is a millennia-old Ayurvedic method that has detoxification benefits. Take a tablespoon of antibacterial, cold-processed, unrefined oil (coconut oil, olive oil, or sesame oil) and “walk” it through your mouth for 10-20 minutes.

Suck the oil, swish it, and pull it through your teeth, all-around your mouth. One single rule: don’t swallow it. You will spit out the oil at the end of the procedure, as it’s full of toxins and microbes.

More and more studies show that the oil pulling method has many benefits for the whole body.

The oil pulling method sucks the toxins and bacteria out of your oral cavity and cleans your mouth. It detoxifies not only the mouth but the whole body, as many of our organs are connected (throat, stomach, liver, intestines, lungs, heart, and kidneys).

So, the detoxification goes beyond oral health and extends to the whole body. It prevents Streptococcus infections, treats gingivitis, and bad breath (halitosis), removes tartar and plaque. As you can see, such a small act like cleaning your teeth and mouth has such an immense impact on the whole body.

Ayurveda recommends the oil pulling method to:

  • Reduce inflammation in the body
  • Prevent heart diseases
  • Strengthen the immune system
  • Remove toxins and microbes from the mouth (and out of the body)
  • Get rid of acne and other skin problems
  • Treat asthma and allergies
  • Treat headaches and migraines

6. Dry Brushing

The skin is our largest organs. Yes – the skin is an organ, and it’s the largest in our body. Its functions are to eliminate toxins, regulate temperature, and protect the body from the exterior.

Dry brushing only takes a few minutes, it’s free, and it cleanses the body from the outside and on the inside.

Use a natural bristle brush before you take a shower and brush your dry skin starting from your feet, moving upwards and towards your heart. Do both legs and work your way towards the center, touching the skin gently. Then continue with your arms, brushing in long strokes towards the heart.

Dry Brushing has the following health benefits:

  • Stimulates the lymphatic system
  • Stimulates the blood circulation
  • Removes the dead cells on your skin
  • Stimulates cell regeneration
  • Accelerates toxin elimination
  • Promotes detoxification
  • Stimulates sebaceous glands
  • Stimulates collagen production
  • Boosts metabolism and digestion
  • Unclogs the skin pores
  • Reduces cellulite
  • Improves the skin

7. Baths

A relaxing warm bath is great, but a relaxing warm bath that detoxifies the body is heavenly.

For a detox bath use:

  • Epsom Salt (that pulls the toxins out of the body, relaxes the muscles, reduces inflammation in the body, and stimulates the skin regeneration processes)
  • Essential Oils with antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, relaxing properties (lavender, rosemary, sage, myrrh, geranium).
  • Bentonite Clay (removes toxins from the skin and body)

8. Breathing

Our breathing is one of our automatic processes of detoxification. With each breath, we exhale the polluted air from our lungs and inhale new, pure air. It’s a detoxification that goes on and on minute after minute. Even when we sleep, we detoxify through breathing.

If we want to do it even better, we may become aware of this process, to enhance its power. And do a simple breathing exercise with powerful detoxification effects for our body, emotions, and mind.

  • Sit on a chair, close your eyes, and relax your body.
  • Become aware of your breathing. Focus solely on your inspiration and expiration.
  • Now, when you exhale, visualize that with the air, you exhale tensions, toxins, evil thoughts, anger, sadness, frustration, and disease (if you have a specific illness that you want to get rid of, visualize it as a grey cloud going out of your body with each expiration).
  • When you inhale, visualize that with the air, you inhale pure light, love, joy, health, calmness, harmony or peace.
  • Do so for 10-15 minutes or longer, if you feel the need.
  • In the end, be aware of the state of lightness, easiness, peace, calmness, harmony, and bliss that you acquired in your body, mind, and heart.

9. Yoga Poses

Detox is not only about green juicing, flushing, and clean eating. Yoga cleanses the energy channels in your body (just like blood veins, you also have invisible to the eye, energetic channels that sometimes get blocked due to stress, negative emotions and thoughts, lack of exercise and so on), clears your mind, restores your energy levels, boosts metabolism, and regulates your hormones.

The following yoga poses stretch your body, stimulate the abdominal area, release tension from the solar plexus area, stimulate the stomach, the liver, gall bladder, and kidneys, increase digestion and boost metabolism, stimulate the lymphatic system, reduce stress, calm down and clear the mind, and give your body new energy.

  • Sarvangasana (Shoulder Stand)
  • Trikonasana (Triangle Pose)
  • Virabhadrasana I, II, III (Warrior Pose I, II, III)
  • Viparita Virabhadrasana
  • Salabhasana (Locust Pose)
  • Navasana (Boat Pose)
  • Padahastasana (Big Toe Pose)

10. Meditation or Prayer

Meditation is a beautiful way to calm and clear your mind of stressful thoughts and emotions that are toxic to your health.

Simple techniques can include:

  • Guided Meditations.
  • Focusing the mind on the flame of a candle.
  • Meditation with a mantra (sacred sounds like OM).
  • Transcendental Meditation.
  • Simple prayers that you say in your own words or you recite by the heart are an emotional, mental, and spiritual detoxification.
  • In those moments of silence, all negative, toxic emotions and thoughts dissolve, and you experience total peace, harmony, and bliss. And this state will also impact your body, its health, and balance.
